Charles Atkinson, professor of music, is a musicologist specializing in the music and music theory of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. His teaching interests also encompass Viennese Classicism and the music of the twentieth century. A former DAAD and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Atkinson has received numerous scholarly awards, including the Einstein Award of the American Musicological Society, Elliot Prize of the Medieval Academy of America, and The Ohio State University Distinguished Scholar and Distinguished Lecturer Awards. Atkinson received his B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico, M.M. from The University of Michigan, and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. He also studied at the Julliard School of Music and the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany as DAAD Fellow.
