Marc Ainger, head of the music theory and composition area and associate professor, holds a Ph.D. in composition from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an undergraduate degree from California Institute of the Arts. Before joining the faculty of The Ohio State University, he taught composition and computer music at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Active as a composer and a sound designer, Ainger has written for a large variety of media, including works for orchestra, chamber music, computer music, film and video, and multi-media.
In addition to a performance by the Royal Danish Ballet, his works have been presented at conventions of the International Computer Music Conference, American Film Institute, and International Society for the Electronic Arts. His awards include the Irino International Chamber Music Award, the Coulez Composition Fellowship, Meet the Composer, the Esperia Foundation, B.M.I., and two Corwin Composition Awards. As a sound designer, Ainger has worked with various institutions, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Tempo Reale (Italy), IRCAM (France), Olympic Arts Festival, and Pacific Coast Soundworks.
