Patricia Flowers

Patricia J. Flowers, professor of music education, was educated at Kent State University (B.M. and M.M.) and Florida State University (Ph.D.). She taught elementary general music in Ohio public schools, and served as a faculty member at the University of Texas at San Antonio prior to joining the OSU faculty. Dr. Flowers teaches graduate level research classes as well as music methods classes for teachers of elementary, preschool, and special education students. Her research interests include music listening and description, music in the inclusive classroom, and music in older adulthood.

Dr. Flowers has a sustained record of professional publication in premiere journals and regularly presents her research in venues spanning school districts, state and national organizations, professional associations, university residencies, and international meetings. She has served two terms on the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Research in Music Education, as Chair of the Music Education Research Council, and as the 2002 Invited Lecturer for the Society for Research in Music Education. She has been a member of the OSU School of Music faculty since 1985 where she served as Chair of Graduate Studies from 1992-2007 and twice received the School of Music Distinguished Scholar award. Professor Flowers continues to blend teaching, research, and outreach through regular engagement with schools and nursing homes, promoting music to enhance quality of life for people of all ages .
