Dr. Sandra Mathias is currently serving as the Interim Director for The Ohio State University Women’s Glee Club. She is a graduate of SUNY - Fredonia (BS in Mus. Ed.); Ball State University (MA with Orff Concentration), The Ohio State University (Ph.D. in Mus. Ed.), and The Kodály Center of America (Kodály Certificate). Dr. Mathias recently retired from Capital University, where she served as Professor of Vocal Music Education for 29 years. She maintains active contact with young people as the Artistic Director of the Columbus Children's Choir and the conductor for the New World Singers and the high school Girls’ A Cappella ensemble. Under her direction, the New World Singers performed at 2007 national conferences of the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA) and the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE). The New World Singers have performed with the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO; the Chautauqua Symphony at the Chautauqua Institution; and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Mathias is the recipient of the Kodály Institute Intezetért Award, the 2001 CSO Community Music Educator of the Year, the Southside Settlement Arts Freedom Award, and Outstanding Educator Award from OAKE. She has presented papers at conferences in the United States, Hungary, Australia, England, and China. She is a Past President of the Organization of American Kodály Educators (OAKE).
She serves as the R & S Chair for Children’s Choirs for OCDA. In the Spring of 2009, Dr. Mathias will be the guest conductor for the Middle School Treble Chorus at the state conference of the Georgia Music Educators’ Association, and the National Children’s Choir at the OAKE national conference.
