School of Music Ensemble Audition Schedule

 

Fall 2009

Band Auditions will be held September 22 through 25. For detailed information, please see the band website www.bands.osu.edu.

Choral Auditions will be held September 22 through 25.
Singers should plan to audition for all groups except the Gospel-Spiritual Ensemble (Music 208.02, M. Ruffin, instructor) and the University Chorus (Music 203.03, T. Sarsany, conductor). Students wishing to participate in those groups should simply come to the first class meeting in Weigel Room 177, where voice placements will be made in class.

Singers wishing to participate in Chorale (Music 203.01), in Men’s Glee Club (Music 203.04), in Women’s Glee Club (Music 203.05) or Mastersingers (Music 208.02, H. Apfelstadt, instructor), must audition. (Symphonic Choir will not be offered this year.)

Choral auditions include the following: singing scales and short melodies to test range and demonstrate voice quality; singing melodic retention exercises comprising hearing and repeating short melodic patterns; performing rhythmic exercises involving singing or clapping patterns in common meters; sight reading short melodies; singing a familiar tune such as “My country tis of thee” (words provided). VOICE MAJORS MUST BRING A PREPARED SOLO; an accompanist will be provided.

Sign up sheets will be posted on the respective bulletin boards by September 16. These boards are located in Weigel Hall in the stage door hallway.
